PAYEH MAGA HIGHLANDS:

The highlands of Payeh Maga (that means swampy highlands in the Lun Bawang language of Sarawak) has over 180 bird species including 27 endemic bird species including Bornean Banded Pitta Pitta schwaneri, Black Oriole, Bornean Green Magpie Cissa jefferyi and Bornean Bulbul Pycnonotus montis. Bigger birds such as hornbills and eagles are often spotted soaring in the areas as well.

ITINERARY: TRAVEL CONDITION: 4WD = 1 GUIDE + 1 DRIVER + 2 GUESTS (Travel From KK)

DAY 01
• Pick up from Kota Kinabalu. Travel for 3-4 hours to Lawas and stop for lunch. Travel for 2-3 hours on gravel road to Homestay Tien Cool (HTC). Late afternoon birding around Homestay. After dinner, overnight at Homestay. NOTE: Sort out items to be brought to Camp One on the foot of Payeh Maga.

DAY 02
• Wake up call at 5am. Birding around Homestay. After breakfast, trek for 3-4 hours on a swampy trail to reach Camp One (965m asl). After lunch, birding around the Camp One site. After dinner, overnight in a shelter at Camp One. NOTE: Toilet facilities- squatting toilet and water in a bucket to wash and shower.

DAY 03
• Wake up call at 5am. Birding around Camp One site. After breakfast, free at leisure. After lunch, birding around the Camp One site. After dinner, overnight in a shelter at Camp One.

LAST DAY
• Wake up call at 6am. Birding around Camp One site. After breakfast, trek for 3-4 hours on a swampy trail and head back to HTC. After late lunch, travel for 2-3 hours on dirt and gravel road to Lawas and then travel for another 3-4 hours to reach Kota Kinabalu.
